What's the story?
We are Scotland’s National Vacancy Handling Service for youth employment and training. We help young people to find Apprentice and Trainee opportunities and support employers and training providers to target the youth labour market more effectively. The service is expanding fast and run by a small team of Modern Apprentices with the professional support and guidance of The Career Studio and our growing list of partners.
The service was originally developed by Careers Advisers in response to the growing need for youth opportunity information from young people, parents, teachers and careers advisers across Scotland.
We are trying to make it easier for young people to have access to opportunities and also for employers to have access to a community of high quality young people looking to do an apprenticeship.
ApprenticeshipsinScotland.com has grown quickly and now reaches over 12,500 unique users per month and over 4000 subscribers. It is the acknowledged main source of youth opportunity information in Scotland and attracts significant referrals from key national channels including Skills Development Scotland’s My World of Work and Young Scot Extra.
Daniel and Shaun are Modern Apprentices and also gaining their SVQs in Business, they are also learning skills and adding value to the skills and learning sector. They are already a valuable source of advice about apprenticeship programmes and the youth labour market.
According to Daniel “The first 6 months have passed so quickly. We have climbed Ben Nevis, met Miss Scotland, visited the headquarters of the London 2012 Olympics, filmed events and case studies, been on BBC Radio Scotland and we’ve even been to the Scottish Parliament to meet the Minister for Learning and Skills and speak to 150 people.”
Shaun says “we are now starting to add real value to employers and training providers as well as helping young people. Using youth networks, partnerships, technology, digital channels and by listening we have found we can solve problems and create new opportunities. I had no idea my own apprenticeship could be so rewarding.”
